Workshops and Community Art

I run and coordinate workshops as part of Art in the Park, Burgess park and Bold Everywhere. For more info please contact me directly or email studio@artinthepark.co.uk

Above are a few images of a workshop I ran with Nikki Shaill of Originary Arts exploring image making through collaging with basic shapes and primary colours with children.

Above are some images of the first Art in the Park project I worked on. I used cut outs and drawings made by older people during workshops to design the metal images on two of the markers which now stand in Burgess Park.

Throughout May to September I have been running a series of workshops at Bold Tendencies which explore the space and the artwork in different ways with local children and young people. This includes skyline sketching, comic strip drawing, experimental botanical drawing, collage, performance and learning how to question art.

Above are some images of a project I am currently working on in collaboration with Bold Everywhere and artist, James Capper. We are teaching young people in the Royal Docks area about hydraulics, engineering and art through moving sculpture workshops and collage workshops.

The above photos are of an Art in the Park project in which I lead workshops for a local SEN school where we explored the historic story of Prince Lee Boo through art workshops and a trip to his tomb.

Above are some pictures of Burgess Park Drawing Club, an Art in the Park project for young people. We visited different areas of Burgess Park and tried out different drawing techniques. The young people then curated an exhibition in the Art in the Park studio. The project also included trips to local galleries.

Above are some images of a summer project I did with Futurevercity in which I lead workshops on ‘Experimental Art’, ‘Art for Art’s Sake’, ‘Getting into Art’, and ‘Painting Like Banksy’.

The above photos are from tote bag decorating workshops that I have done at Art in the Park studio. They use a simple block printing method which combines everyday materials.

Above are some images of The Animal Mirror project which I worked on with Bold Tendencies. I lead a series of animal themed workshops with schools in Peckham which explored collage, drawing, weaving and 3D making. The artwork made throughout these workshops was then displayed in an exhibition throughout the summer of 2018 in Bold Tendencies.

Above are some images of some wrapping paper and Christmas card workshops I ran leading up to Christmas.

Above are some photos of a project in Queens Park Community Gardens where I am collaborated with the community to decorate objects in the gardens using mosaic techniques with only recycled and donated materials.

Above are some pictures of a series of workshops ran for young people with Art in the Park and Friends of Burgess Park to commemorate the Zeppelin Bomb which landed where Burgess Park is now in 1917. 100 years on we remembered this by painting crockery and designing wallpaper based on what they would have had at the time whilst incorporating images of the Zeppelin and researching what toys children at that time would have played with.

The above images are from the Green Elephant Drawing Club. It was a series of five workshops for young people from Elephant and Castle and Walworth organised by myself in collaboration with Art in the Park and Inspire youth club. It was funded by the London Community Fund. At the beginning of each session would meet at the Newington Estate and walk to one of the following green spaces: the green spaces in Newington Estate itself; St Mary’s Churchyard; Nursery Row Park; Elephant Park; Tibetan Peace Garden at the Imperial War Museum. We did drawing activities inspired by the following artists: Matisse; Sabine Timm; Mary Jo Hoffman; Kathy Klein; Andy Goldsworthy; Cameron Robbins; Tim Knowles; Calder; Reuben Powell; Clara Pope. Some of the activities we did were: Colour mixing; Observational drawing; Making cut-outs; Collaging; Creating land art out of found objects in the park; Drawing from land art; Drawing by swinging pens from strings; Drawing with pastel attached to sticks; Collaborative drawing; Drawing with our feet, mouths, necks, bikes, etc; Continuous line drawing; Drawing with wire; Drawing from imagination. At the end of the project we put on an exhibition in the Art in the Park Studios.

These images are from a workshop which took place in the Derek Jarman Garden in Bold Tendencies, Peckham for young people aged 9-10 years old. The aim of the workshop was to create botanical illustrations in an experimental way.

Above are some pictures of a Flobile making workshop teaching young people to make their own paper mobiles.

Above are some photos of a 7 year old birthday party where I did a workshop making paper headdresses.

Above are some images of a copper embossing workshop I did in collaboration with Art in the Park for Pembroke House, Walworth.

Here are some photos of a Calder inspired Christmas decoration making workshop I did at Art in the Park for young people.
